TRAVERSE AREA COMMUNITY SAILING

Each year the Traverse Area Community Sailing’s (TACS ) Junior sailors look forward to Heartbreaker sailing day. Bob and Laura Hughes bring their GL52 Heartbreaker to Traverse City to provide the TACS Junior Sailors with a day of training. It is a thrill for these young sailors to experience sailing on a grand prix GL52 and opens their eyes to the wider possibilities in sailing.

MISSION: To provide affordable sailing opportunities to residents and visitors of  the Grand Traverse Region. We tell our parents that sailing is a wholesome sport that kids can enjoy right away and the lessons of sailing last a lifetime, like self-reliance, the value of teamwork, respect for the environment and the rewards that come from challenge and competition.

VISION: TACS has a rich area of programs including youth, adult, adaptive and women’s sailing programs. They have a strong high school sailing program practicing spring and fall traveling to midwest and local competitions. Private lessons, learn to race and scholarships all come together to get as many people out sailing as possible!
